The Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS)

Towne Group Media personnel were among the first contractors to work with the American Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS). Our team provided producers, editors, and graphic artists to create news and information programming for the American Forces Network (AFN) that serves our military deployed overseas. Our early efforts at AFRTS helped lead to the launch of the Pentagon Channel, another keystone client of the Towne Group Media team.

In 2005 Towne Group Media was selected to create AFRTS’ first-ever PSA production team, a unit that works with the Radio and Television Production Office to produce award winning Public Service Announcements, effectively promoting the strategic priorities of the Pentagon command.

Our team produces about 200 PSA spots each year, including…

  • morale-boosting Celebrity Shout Outs that salute our deployed soldiers

  • “heads-up” messages about benefits and other programs available to members of the military

  • warnings about health and safety issues, and

  • video profiles of Warrior Care providers.

Our team’s work for the Radio and TV Production Office has led to assignments under RTPO auspices for other organizations. We include an overview of this work below.

The Dallas Cowboys turned to AFRTS and our PSA production team for a video Salute to the Troops to play at halftime on the world’s biggest big screen in full 1080p HDTV.

Our PSA production team at AFRTS produced a four-spot campaign to promote the Post 9/11 GI Bill for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The series, entitled “Cents”, follows the money to find new benefits that make good sense for returning military and veterans.

Our team produced a four-spot campaign about Alcohol Abuse for Tricare, the health care program serving uniformed services members, retirees, and their families worldwide. Called “That Guy”, the campaign presented bartenders and bouncers recounting their experiences with the guy (or girl) who drank too much, with funny or not so funny consequences.

For the Military Vaccine Agency (MILVAX), our PSA production team created an animated PSA campaign promoting Flu Vaccine titled “Chicken Knows Best”.  MILVAX’ mission is to synchronize information, deliver education, and coordinate U.S. military immunization programs worldwide.

The Towne Group Media team developed a PSA series  focused on the ongoing health needs and concerns of  returning veterans. The campaign (entitled “Home”) walks the viewer through the health issues that returning veterans face and suggests solutions.
